We were formed in 1997 as a Local Rural Partnership, initially supported by the Scottish Executive Rural Challenge fund and Aberdeenshire Council to promote rural development within the Formartine Area of Aberdeenshire. We had an elected management team from the area including local councillors, Community Council representatives and representatives from local bodies such as Ythan District Fishery Board, Forestry Commission, National Farmers Union of Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage. Additional funding came from project grants such as the Ythan Project and the Oral Heritage Project
In April 2006 we became a Registered Company Ltd by Guarantee (SC 301273) for charitable purposes but we are not a registered charity. The management team became a Board of Directors, though its composition changed little and it is still a team of volunteers. There are 12 Directors elected at an AGM, and two employees.
Our members include representatives from all the Community Councils, from many of the voluntary and community groups in Formartine and from local businesses.
Our core funding now comes from Aberdeenshire Council Economic Development Service and Formartine Area Manager and in return we agree to provide services on their behalf through a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and provide an Annual Report.
To help our work, we have close contacts with community groups and organisations within Formartine and wider links to Aberdeenshire, Scottish and UK organisations
